Huge Mustang team聽heading to OFSAA!

It is heartening to see 91性息港 Secondary sending such a substantial team to the all-Ontario track and field championships in London at the Western University Stadium. The team had to qualify for this week鈥檚 event at last week鈥檚 NOSSA hosted by St. Joe/Scollard Hall in North Bay.

The top individual highlights (starting from the youngest) from the Bay include: Jack Bridgeman who punched his OFSAA ticket with a second in high jump; Morgan Deadman took third in high jump; Jonah Balfe 鈥 2nd javelin; Wyatt Williamson-Wright 鈥 1st 3000m, 2nd 1500m; Fia Flanagan 鈥 3rd high jump; Mya Balfe 鈥 2nd long jump, 2nd triple jump, 2nd discus; Jack Carter 鈥 3rd long jump; Emery Watson 鈥 3rd javelin, 5th discus; Sadie Bridgeman 鈥 2nd long jump, 5th 200m; Mac(Kenzie) Green 鈥 3rd 800m, 4th 1500m, 4th 2000m steeplechase; Brodie Pennie 鈥 1st 1500m, 1st 3000m, 3rd 800m; TJ Green 鈥 4th 800m, 4th 1500m, 4th 2000m steeplechase; Maren Kasunich who is coming off a nagging injury 鈥 2nd 3000m, 2nd 2000m steeplechase (she is still the record holder here!); Saraya Eshkawkogan 鈥 3rd long jump; Annie Balfe 鈥 1st triple jump, 1st javelin, 3rd discus; Colin Lindner 鈥 1st javelin. 聽

Transplant Islander, Brooke Gibeault competing for Lo Ellen is also London bound thanks to a pair of firsts in the 100m hurdles and shot put!

In the relays, MSS was 5th in the open women鈥檚 4 x 400m thanks to Annie Balfe, Sadie Bridgeman, Mac Green, Ava Corbiere and Mya Balfe. This team took bronze with Greyson Case, Alan Wilkin, Andrew Cooper, TJ Green and Wyatt Williamson-Wright.

In the individual aggregate tallies, Mya Balfe was third in her Junior division, Wyatt Williamson-Wright聽 4th, Annie Balfe 1st and Brodie Pennie 1st.

After all the results were considered, these were the lucky 13 selected to represent the North: Mya Balfe, Annie Balfe, Jack Bridgeman, Sadie Bridgeman, Greyson Case, Andrew Cooper, Fia Flanagan, TJ Green, Maren Kasunich, Colin Lindner, Brodie Pennie, Alan Wilkin, Wyatt Williamson-Wright. Congratulations to all the 91性息港 kids who came out and competed!

Rocked the Rock

Last week I mentioned that Aurel Fox-Recollet won the Sudbury Rocks 10k, but of course there were many other locals who were also participating in one of the various distances offered. In the 5k, hats off to Denise and Derek Graham, William McComb, Emily Deegan, Kara Peltier, Jamie Peltier, Sarah Odjig and Terry Beaudry joined the 700-plus runners.听

In the 10k distance Aurel and 337 other runners participated including Islanders: Daniel Young, Lorilee McGregor, Roxxanne Mandamin, Andy Waugh, Mila Odjig, Sierra Pangowish and Shannon Manitowabi.

Participant numbers understandably drop as the distance gets longer and the hearty 250 half-marathon runners took in the 21.1 km course. They included: Jessica Stere, Iain McGale, Bronwyn Cooper, Marilee Bentley, Jason Spooner, Andre Rivers and Luke Armstrong.

Finally, the tough of the tough who ran the full 42.2 km marathon included only Christian Kaiser-Fox of M鈥機higeeng amongst the just 63 finishers!

Rainbow Ridge Mixed聽Open 4-Peat?

It doesn鈥檛 flow like a 3-peat maybe but I鈥檓 sure the winners of this year鈥檚 event don鈥檛 mind. Kathryn Corbiere and Justice Corbiere shot a two-day total of 143 to win their fourth title in a row! Just a few strokes back, winning the first flight with a 148 were Roxxanne Corbiere and Rene Paquet. Taking the second flight with 161 were Quinton and Kendra Recollet while the third flight had a tie at 175 between the pairs Mike Assinewai – Nancy Kinoshameg and Zachariah Pitawanakwat – Justine Keeshig.听

The next major event is the RRGC Men鈥檚 Open on the July 12 -14th weekend.
