Charges laid following collision
One person has been charged after a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles in Wiikwemkoong.
On Thursday, May 23, while on patrol officers with the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service (WTPS) were dispatched to the intersection of Wabanosse Street and Wikwemikong Way to the scene of a two-motor vehicle collision on the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory (WUT).
An officer arrived on the scene and observed front end damages to both vehicles.
As a result of the investigation a male resident of Wiikwemkoong was issued a three-part summons and charged with driving while under suspension in contravention of section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act, owner operator of vehicle with no insurance in contravention of section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act and left turn-failure to afford reasonable opportunity to avoid collision, section 141(5) of the HTA.
Police respond to break, enter and theft
On Tuesday, May 21, officers with the WTPS received a call of a break, enter and theft that occurred on Bayview Heights on the WUT.
Officers attended the scene and spoke to complainants who explained that entry was gained through a window where an air conditioner was located. The suspect pushed through and entered, and approximately $900 in cash was stolen. Nothing else was taken. There are no suspects identified at this time and the incident is still under investigation.

Police respond to theft call
On Wednesday, May 22, officers with the WTPS received a call of a break, enter and theft that occurred at a local business on the WUT.
Upon arrival officers observed a window smashed at the store, with rocks around the area. Officers spoke to the owner who indicated that a few items were missing from the store, such as chips and ice cream.
The WTPS has no suspects at this time and the incident is still under investigation.
Charged with uttering threats
On Wednesday, May 22, officers received a report from a complainant of a person who had uttered threats to them in December 2023 in Wiikwemkoong.
The officers spoke to the complainant who indicated that the threat was originally made and then a few days later an individual attended the complainant鈥檚 apartment and was banging on the door. The complainant decided to make a report requesting charges be laid.
As a result of the investigation a male resident of Wiikwemkoong was placed under arrest and charged with uttering threats, in contravention of section 264.(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
The accused is set to appear in Wikwemikong Court (provincial division) on Tuesday, June 25 to answer to the charge.

By calling 911 and reporting suspected impaired drivers to police, everyone can assist in keeping our roads, trails, and waterways safe by reducing impaired driving collisions, injuries and potential deaths.鈥
The Wikwemikong Tribal Police responded to 104 calls for service for the week of May 21-27.
