MSS students are always kept busy, even as the end of the year approaches. From community clean-ups, to presentations, to contests, there is always something going on! Let’s take a look at what happened this week.

It is the moment we have all been waiting for, the winners of the Headstrong photo contest have been announced! For the past few weeks, students have been asked to submit photos that show the beauty of 91ÐÔÏ¢¸Û Island, in a campaign promoting mindfulness. Students snapped pictures of sunsets, the Northern Lights, Lake Huron, sunflower fields and more. It must not have been an easy job for Headstrong to determine the winners! On Tuesday, May 8 the morning announcements revealed who captured the best photos. Congratulations to the third place winner Destiny Migwans, second place winner Myah Gravelle, and first place winner Bradley Slaught.

On Tuesday, May 28 tryouts for a mixed softball team began, with an additional tryout on Friday, May 31. Everyone was welcome to join and show off their softball skills in preparation for the tournament on Tuesday, June 4.

Grade 11 students had visitors from Laurentian University on Tuesday, May 28. Representatives from the university spoke to students who will be applying to post-secondary schools in the fall about the application process and university life. With application season right around the corner again, these presentations are important for our future Grade 12s.

There are still spots left on this fall’s Stratford trip! The annual MSS Stratford trip allows students to witness the theatrical talents at the Stratford theater festival. This year, students will see ‘Romeo and Juliet,’ ‘Something Rotten,’ ‘Twelfth Night’ and ‘Le Cage.’

Friday, May 31 was Undercover Agent Day. Students showed up in sunglasses, dark outfits and combat boots. This spirit day was in honour of the ongoing game of Spymaster currently being played.

Wednesday, June 5 is World Environment Day. To recognize this, members of the MSS robotics team are hosting a community clean-up. Students will spend two hours after school cleaning up the surrounding shoreline and forest. Thank you to all the students who come out to help!

That is all for this week! Until next time, go, Mustangs, go!
